Missional Aims & Learning Outcomes for Guide Development

What does it mean to "be a guide"? While the outcome is always you become more yourself, these are key markers that we hope to invite all guides into. Of course, we're all on a journey and these won't be complete when we come to the end of our sessions but it is the missional aim that we are all headed towards.

Our goal with guide development is to create coherence and confidence in these 12 areas:

1. I know my missionary identity, who I am and why I matter: This is about a guide knowing who you are in God. From that heart, flows your missionary identity. Guides will have a clear idea of their worth, value, and why they were created.
   
2. I know that my love changes the world. I exist to love: This is about a deep understanding of love, knowing I am made for love, and having a generous spirit.  
3. I feel confident to accompany explorers and engage in worldview dialogue with them: This is about understanding thresholds and segments, and meeting people where they are. They feel confident to invite explorers into dialogue and engage. 
   
4. I know Christ and my relationship with Him moves me to see the world & others with the eyes of Jesus: I am in a perpetual loop of being with Jesus that informs how I see others and then I go out to others and it propels me back to Jesus. 
   
5. I am able to deeply know and relate to my neighbor: This is about attuning, deep listening, being fully present, understanding how people change, seeing God in the other, and honouring the other. 
6. I know how to navigate sensitive situations: This is about knowing how to respond in love to traumatic experiences and deep wounds. This is preparing guides to know how to engage and when to bring others into the situation. 
   
7. I know how to understand and navigate the cultural forces influencing all of us: This is about understanding the world, modernity, and the way culture has infiltrated our way of thinking and seeing the world. Guides will have deeper clarity and new eyes to see the world – in all areas of life. 
   
8. I have experienced & am integrating a biblical worldview: This is about integrating biblical worldview into their own life to some degree - a foundational understanding that has begun to take root inside their heart. A guide will be more integrated as a person. 
   
9. I belong to a community sent on a mission. I am not alone: This is about how we guide as a community. Guides will have an understanding of their other guides and their gifts. They will feel equipped and comfortable calling on others as they accompany explorers. 
   
10. I have discerned where my gifts & capacities can most support my God-given calling: This is about understanding my specific role and how the Holy Spirit works. This is about how I can better understand where I can give myself to God’s mission for me.    ‍
11. I know how to recognize God at work:  I know the hand and voice of God. I can recognize when he's working in my life and the life of others. I'm aware of the Holy Spirit and the spiritual realm alive around me. ‍
12. I have experienced being myself and it bearing fruit in the world: Guides experience life as profound by living this way in my everyday life. They have taken action, and integrated these ideas into life.
